Life

Lately life has been different than maybe what we expected. While I may not know much about what lies ahead of us, I do know that I am really and truly grateful for the people who travel that road with me.

Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky in my life. Today I am feeling extremely grateful for these things (in no particular order):

  • My deeply caring friends and I don't mean that in some trite way - they really are super awesome people who make me feel so very loved and cared for.
  • My husband. He. Is. Amazing. Period. (no worries - we have our fair share of bickering over household stuff, etc, but he is still amazing)
  • My parents, who would graciously give up all that they have in this world for me and my brother.

  • Honey, who reminds me daily how to face life's challenges with grace and love (and fun).
  • My crazy dogs who, despite being super neurotic, love me unconditionally and seem to know when I need that love the most (i.e., for the moment I need them, they forgo doing things like throwing up after eating their food too fast - thank you Gracie for waiting until 5:45 am today to that)

  • My husband's family and the relationships they have with him and us. I got super lucky on this one.

Our little hobby keeps growing

We have had fabulous weather so far this year - an actual spring! Around this time last year, we had weeks full of mostly 80-degree days and we've had maybe 4 total 80-degree days so far this year. It's really been awesome and we found that our tomatoes and tomatillos enjoy this kind of weather quite a bit. The growth we've seen has been quite substantial and we currently have baby tomatoes on all of our plants!

We've also seen substantial growth in other areas of our yard.

We planted a Meyer Lemon tree and a Lime tree earlier in the spring and they are both doing quite well.

But we've seen the most substantial growth in our fig tree - it has really taken off!

Wow

I knew it had been awhile since my last post but good grief its been almost a month! I will say that the last few weeks have been a whirlwind. It feels like we haven't been super busy but when I look at what we've been up to it's actually a good amount.

After my last post, I traveled to the American Counseling Association conference in Cincinnati for four days. Basically that trip was just good for my soul. Leaving NC was hard for so many reasons but I've found the lack of collegial relationships with other counselors to be particularly difficult. Four days with some of my doctoral cohort and other UNCG students/grads wasn't nearly enough but it was so great spending time with them. I even convinced a UNC grad to go to the NC State NCAA game. Although it didn't end well, it was a fun a little side trip.

The husband left for San Antonio the Saturday before I got back from Cincinnati. The following weekend we worked to catch up on house stuff and had a Saturday full of social stuff that included a 2-year old birthday party, a crawfish boil and a wedding shower! And I did all of that with a full body rash - apparently I'm allergic to antibiotics!

This past week we headed to Baltimore Wednesday after a short two days of work. While Chip spent some time with his parents and friends, I did the tourist thing with my mom. The main reason for meeting my mom in Baltimore was to see Les Miserables. We had a great time and the show was truly amazing.

We have one more busy weekend ahead - the husband rides in the MS-150 this coming weekend - and then we're on a hiatus from travel, etc for awhile. We'll need the time to catch up on the house, garden, and plan for our master bathroom remodel!
